Restorative Justice
Produced by: Halina Ogonowska-Coates of Radio New Zealand
Restorative Justice is a process that works toward putting things right for people who have been the victims of crimes. New Zealand leads the world with a court referred Restorative Justice pilot aimed at offering better outcomes for crime victims and reducing the number of re-offenders. During this process, offenders and victims are brought face to face. In this program, we meet 20 year-old prison inmate Simon Sloper, who killed his friend in a road accident involving dangerous driving, and join him as he is forced to confront his friend's grieving family members. Hear how Restorative Justice works in practice, and the emotional impact on the victims and perpetrator. |
